2021-TERM 2 – WEEK 8

"In the end what matters is not so much what you bought,

but what you built;

not so much what you got, but what you shared;

not so much your success, but your significance;

not so much your competence, but your character;

not so much what you said, but what you did".

Message from the Principal

First Holy Communion

Over the weekend students in our Year 4 Class celebrated their First Holy Communion. Congratulations to all students who looked very angelic on the day. Thank you to Mr Carter for preparing the students for this wonderful celebration. Thank you to Miss Kenworthy, Mr Fitzpatrick, Mrs Luca and Mrs Deib for their assistance on the day. A special thank you to Father Bernard for celebrating the mass and for running the workshop last week where he cooked some delicious bread with the children.

Our Core Values

Our Core values at OLGC are Love, Respect, Excellence and Justice. The third value of Excellence focusses on setting high standards and expectations that challenge all to give their best. When talking to the students about this value they believe that it means they need to try hard, be persistent, learn from good role models, be hard working, set and achieve goals and have a high standard of work, communication, manners, attitude and behaviour.

The Fathering Project

Last week, I was fortunate to be invited to a Fathering Project School Principal event. The event highlighted how lucky we are to have such a thriving and active ADHOC fathering group full of enthused dads and father figures. It was a good reminder that loving and connected dads have an enormous impact, not only on their children’s lives but also on their own. https://thefatheringproject.org/

Reconciliation Week

This year’s theme was: More than a word, Reconciliation takes Action. Our Year 6 students held a National Reconciliation Week prayer service. Reconciliation Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements. We all have a part to play collectively building relationships and community. This year marks 20 years of Reconciliation Australia and nearly three decades of the formal reconciliation process. As a school, we continue to build our cultural competency and awareness as we educate our children and staff about the culture and history of our First Nations people.

Semester One Reports

The academic achievement reports for Semester 1 will be sent out on Thursday 1st July. Reports will be available to access via SEQTA Engage. ALL reports will only be accessed electronically via the SEQTA Engage portal. An email will be sent out shortly asking parents to login prior to reports going home to ensure you have access.

Unwell Children

Thank you to those parents who have kept their children home when unwell. As winter approaches and bugs start to circulate in the community, it is vitally important that if your child is unwell, they do not attend school.

God Bless

Nic Gaglia

The OLGC P&F is now on Facebook!!

As a way of keeping up with communication, a page has been created for members of the OLGC Community – please look for OLGC KARRINYUP P&F and request to join. All correspondence will be a duplication of what is already in the newsletter so you won’t miss out on anything.

For those families that do not know, there is an OLGC Uniform Sale or Swap Facebook page! (Uniform Sale or Swap). It’s a great way to off load your old uniforms to pass onto others, whether you sell them, swap them or donate them!

As we are heading into the winter uniform in Terms 2 or 3, there may be some items on there that you need.

If you would like to join the page please look for Uniform Sale or Swap on Facebook or alternatively send Sharon Seaman an email sharonlseaman@westnet.com.au and request to join the page.
