2021-TERM 1 – WEEK 3

Message from the Principal

Yesterday was  Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Tuesday) which marks the preparation for lent. Lent is a time of solemn observance and preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Lent is time for fasting or giving something up. Lent allows us time to clear our minds and hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. The Lenten Season is a time of preparation and penance in the 40 days prior to Easter. During Religious Education classes the children will not only discuss what Lent is about but will also look at ways they can be involved in the Lenten Season such as giving up something i.e. lollies, chocolate, etc. or giving something of themselves i.e. helping around the house or donating to Project Compassion.

Teacher/Parent Night

Parent night for Pre Primary to Year 6 parents will go ahead tonight, Wednesday the 17th February. There will be 2 sessions 6pm and 6:40pm. Parents will be asked to use hand sanitiser when entering the room and sit in the chairs which have been spread out to adhere to the 1.5m rule.

2022 Kindy Enrolments

Enrolment interviews for Kindergarten 2022 will commence shortly. Parents/Carers of students currently attending are reminded that they are required to submit an Enrolment Application Form if they intend to enrol a younger sibling into the Kindergarten program for 2022 or beyond.  Please encourage family/friends to submit applications as soon as possible.

Change/Update details

Have you moved to a new house, changed email addresses, mobile, home or work telephone numbers? Are there any changes to the people you have as your emergency contact details? If so, please ensure you notify the office @ admin@olgc.wa.edu.au

Sick Students

If your child is feeling unwell they are asked not to attend school so as not to infect their classmates and teachers. It is of upmost importance that children displaying ANY flu like systems do not attend school. A reminder that children who have gastro should not return to school until they have been asymptomatic for at least 24 hours.

Code of Conduct

To each fortnight's newsletter I add a section of our Code of Conduct.  Last year we also launched our Student Code of Conduct. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students. This code applies to all parents, staff, students and visitors to our school. If any member is concerned that there may have been a breach of the Code of Conduct they must contact the principal either by phone, email or in person.

The codes are available on our school website. Please find the links below.

School Banking

School Banking will be back this year, every Wednesday from 8:20-8:40am in the school hall starting Wednesday 24th February.

To ensure the safety of our school banking volunteers, the following procedures will be in place;

Money and the completed deposit slip should be placed into an envelope. Remember to check that you have included the child’s name, Student ID and account number and correct amount to be deposited. Without all these details we can’t deposit the funds into the correct account. Please also include student name/year level and parent name/contact email on the front of the envelope, in case there is a need to contact you.

Children to come into the school hall and drop off their envelopes with the banking volunteers on duty and then continue directly to their classroom. Unless you have a child in Kindy or Pre Primary who needs help, please ensure only children enter the hall as adults still need need to practice social distancing. The banking volunteers will count and check money once all envelopes have been received to reduce double handling of money.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.
