Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

ANNUAL COMMUNITY MEETING

A very special vote of thanks to all of the parents and caregivers who came along to the ACM on
Monday evening. As this was my first ACM here at OLGC, I was unsure how many parents to expect,
however, I am reliably informed that it was a very good turnout, as evidenced by there being more
parents and caregivers in attendance than staff!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people and acknowledge their hard work,
dedication and commitment to the children and families at OLGC. These wonderful people have
either stepped down or retired from their current role as a member of the Catholic School Advisory
Council, or in the case of our P&F Association, they have all stepped down as all positions were
declared vacant as part of a transition process to a new governance structure commencing next
year.

Our heartfelt thanks and best wishes go out to;

OLGC CSAC:
• Tony Panetta
• Josephine Germano

OLGC P&F Association:
• Carla Ricciardello
• David Arkins
• Josephine Germano
• Natalie Matsie
• Ariana Skinner
• Jessica Palmer
• Lisa Leonard
• Paul Milward
• Roseanne Buchanan

I would also like to congratulate and welcome the following parents and caregivers who were
elected to the CSAC or P&F Committee on Monday evening. I was very impressed that there were so
many wonderful people willing to nominate for one of these very important groups within our
school community. Catholic schools simply cannot operate effectively or even survive without the
fantastic support of wonderful volunteers such as those who nominated for either group on Monday
evening. It is a very positive and encouraging sign of a vibrant, supportive school community when
we witness a good turnout of parents at the ACM and a very healthy number of parents and carers
willing to nominate.

So, congratulations and thank you to the following newly elected members and
also to those who are continuing in their respective roles for 2023;

OLGC CSAC 2023:

• Paige Harper
• Melissa Smart
• Brent Aiken
• Michelle Angland
• Natalie Matsie (newly elected)
• Solonge Italiano (newly elected)

OLGC P&F Committee 2023:
• Lisa Leonard
• Jessica Palmer
• Ariana Towns
• Josephine Germano
• Laura Brakus (newly elected)
• Claire Tolley (newly elected)
• Sheridan Mulholland (newly elected)
• Jennifer Warner (newly elected)

FINAL THOUGHTS
I would just like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the staff, parents, caregivers and
students at OLGC for making my last semester here such a wonderful and enjoyable time. It has
been fantastic to once again be part of this awesome school community. I have enjoyed my time
here immensely and everyone has been so welcoming and supportive.

You have a wonderful school community here at OLGC. I am very impressed by the way in which
people come together to get involved and make a contribution. The Christmas Extravaganza on
Sunday was a wonderful example of the terrific school spirit that exists here. Congratulations to all
of you and don’t stop doing what you’re doing now. Keep the energy, enthusiasm and sense of
community alive and in no time the word will spread, enrolments will increase and the school’s
financial concerns will be addressed.

As I mentioned at the ACM, every single parent and carer at OLGC has a very important role to play
as an ambassador for our school. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool, so a positive comment or
recommendation to a friend, neighbour, work colleague, customer, relation etc might just convince
them to check us out and request a school tour. You know yourself that a recommendation or
positive feedback about a new restaurant from someone you know and trust, means you’re more
likely to go and have a meal there yourself. As a Principal, I lost count of how many new families I
interviewed that when asked why they had decided to apply for our school, answered that they
knew someone whose children attended school here and they always spoke very highly about the
school. Never underestimate the power of your words and opinions when parents are discussing
schools and their choices.

Peace and best wishes,

Shaun O’Neill
Acting Principal

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Dear Families

One of the best gifts you can give a child is the love of books and the joy and benefits of independent reading for fun.

Children who read at home, or are read to, have a head start on reading success in school.

Numerous studies have found that reading at home is a key factor in a child’s lifelong success.

Libraries provide a fun and easy way of bringing books into a child’s home. It provides families with affordable and convenient way to access the best in Australian and International children’s literature.

Thank you for encouraging your children with the weekly library borrowing and participating in Scholastic book club.

I would like to wish all our families and staff a very Merry Christmas and a  wonderful 2023.

OLGC Second hand Uniforms

Facebook page: OLGC Uniforms – Sale or Swap

The second hand uniform Facebook page is a closed group for the OLGC families who wish to sell, swap, or provide free uniforms to our school community.

Five years ago I set this up and it is now time to pass on the administration role in 2023 to Terri-Ann Shilock as I will have no more children attending OLGC. Thank you to Terri-Ann who will fulfil this role.

You can search on Facebook for ‘OLGC Uniforms – sale or swap’ and answer the questions to join. Once approved you can search for items that you need or post items. Alternatively you can email myself until the end of the year Sharon Seaman – sharonlseaman@westnet.com.au or Terri-Ann tashilcock@gmail.com if you have any questions

It has been a pleasure being your administrator for the group and to all the families all the best at OLGC.
