Lent and Project Compassion
This week, the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come.
By donating to Project Compassion, Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, can work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
Each family will receive a Project Compassion box and/or a set of envelopes for their donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion
Our Year 3 students led a beautiful and reverent Ash Wednesday service today, which brought our community together and reminded us all to take the time to pause and, as Christians use the Lenten period as an opportunity to think of others and act in service of those less fortunate than us.
OLGC Community Events
A very big thank you to our wonderful P&F committee for the Welcome Back Movie Night last Friday evening; it was a wonderful way to gather and start the school year. The weather was perfect for an outdoor movie and it was fantastic to see so many families (new and existing) attend and support this community event. These events don’t come together without the efforts of many people working tirelessly behind the scenes to make it a success, and I am very thankful for their efforts, time and energy.
I have been significantly impressed by the strength and unity of our school community, and the willingness of so many to put their hand up and assist. I also extend my thanks to the parent volunteers who gave their time to cook pancakes for our students on Shrove Tuesday. With their assistance, our Spiritual Ministry was able to raise $357 towards Project Compassion.
Pre-Kindergarten 2023
From the commencement of Term 2, our Pre-Kindergarten program will begin to offer a 2-day program. Pre-Kindy will now operate on a Wednesday and a Friday, with families able to select from a 1-day or 2-day option. Remaining places are very limited, with priority having been given to existing families. If you or a friend, is interested in the Pre-Kindergarten program at OLGC, please contact Jenny or Shannon via admin@olgc.wa.edu.au as soon as possible.
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten 2024 and Kindergarten 2025
The enrolment process for Pre-Kindy and Kindy 2024 and Kindy 2025 has commenced, with very limited availability for Kindy 2024 places.
If you have a child who is scheduled to commence in these years, and you have not submitted their enrolment application yet, please contact us as soon as possible to ensure that your child does not miss out on a place. Existing families must submit an enrolment form for younger siblings.
If you have a friend or family member who has expressed an interest in enrolling their child at our beautiful school, please advise them to get in touch with the office for a school tour or an enrolment pack, as soon as possible.
Parent Involvement Survey
As a small school with a strong sense of school spirit and community, we are constantly grateful for the support that we receive from our families. We are keen to explore the variety of ways that we can engage members of our community in school events and projects. Please assist us in this process, by completing THIS FORM.
Have a wonderful week, and I look forward to continuing to share many more wonderful moments with you and your children over the coming weeks.

OLGC SOCIAL WORKER
Hi OLGC Families!
My name is Jenny Biancotti (the students call me Mrs B) and I am the Social Worker at OLGC and I am looking forward to the year ahead at OLGC.
I have been working with children and families for 20 years and absolutely love what I do. Outside of OLGC I also work for Curtin University, WA Child Safety Services and have my own business so I am busy but passionate about my work.
As a Mum of 3 boys I understand some of the many challenges that come with parenting and one which seems to be sending most of us grey is screen time!
DID YOU KNOW….
“The research found almost two-thirds (60%) of Australian children aged 8-12 are exposed to at least one form of cyber risk. That included 44% who have experienced cyberbullying and 12% who are at risk of gaming disorder. More than a third of 13- to 19-year-olds have experienced unwelcome sexual contact.” (2020 World Child Online Safety Index)
The eSafety Commission is a great place to start when looking for guidance on how to build safety into your children’s online experiences and below are some great webinars coming up on a range of topics for parents. Parent resources | eSafety Commissioner. Their website also has some wonderful and interactive resources for children of all ages and is well worth a look!
I look forward to meeting many of you during the year. Please feel free to reach out and connect with me on Jenny.Biancotti@cewa.edu.au to request a meeting, resources or just some support or advice over phone or email.
