Visual Arts

Visual ArtsThe Visual Arts program at Our Lady of Good Counsel is designed to encourage and empower students’ to problem solve and work creatively when exploring, designing and making their art pieces. Within a creative and nurturing environment, students learn to express, represent and communicate ideas in traditional and emerging art forms
encouraging an appreciation and growth of cultural and visual literacy.

Students build confidence, develop fine motor skills, and engage their feelings and imagination while making visual choices that best reflect their personal development and artistic potential.   Our specialist art teacher provides an innovative program, building upon the students’ interests, skills and knowledge.  Our students are actively encouraged to participate in a diverse range of visual art experiences and to explore a wide variety of art mediums including:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Ceramics
  • Collage
  • Printmaking

Students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 undertake Visual Arts as a specialist subject for 60 minutes each week.  In both Making and Responding, students learn that meaning can be generated from many different viewpoints.  The colourful and inspiring learning space celebrates the abilities of each child and artworks are displayed around the classroom and school environment.   Students practice sustainability by recycling painted and collaged materials. Waterproof art aprons and resources are cared for between classes demonstrating a respectful learning environment.

The Art program fosters student participation and engagement, enjoyment of process and a personal responsibility for safe studio practice.  Students are encouraged to develop their own unique artistic intention, to make choices and experiment with materials in the aim of developing confidence and a passion for artistic expression and creativity.
